Write for us

We welcome clear, original pitches about how urban places are designed, used and understood. A strong proposal explains one focused idea and gives readers a way to see the issue more clearly, without pretending that a single example settles the matter.

What to pitch

We consider explanatory pieces about streets, public spaces, buildings, transport and the history of urban forms. Useful approaches include comparing two design choices, unpacking a familiar feature, explaining a well-defined concept or tracing how an idea changed. We are not seeking generic city roundups, promotional copy or advice that depends on readers making safety-critical or locally regulated decisions.

Make the case

Send a concise summary of the central question, the intended reader and the article's main point. Explain what makes the subject distinct from existing coverage, identify the sources or materials you expect to use, and flag any uncertainty or specialist knowledge the piece would require. Do not include confidential information or claim expertise you do not have.

How to send it

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then make clear that your message is a pitch. Proposals are reviewed for relevance, originality, clarity and support; sending one does not guarantee acceptance or publication. Please do not send a complete commissioned-length article unless we have requested it.
